SANCTI

Scholastica

c. 480–547

Feast: February 10

You are someone who needs no stage, your strongest moments happen where no one is watching. That is Scholastica: according to tradition the twin sister of Benedict, she founds a monastery and chooses hiddenness, a life of silence and prayer. At their last meeting she begs her brother to stay, he means to leave, for his Rule demands it. She prays, and, as the legend tells it, a storm breaks loose that will not let him go: love overrules the Rule. Three days later, so tradition tells us, Benedict sees her soul rise to heaven as a dove. Her power was never a performance, it was a prayer no one saw. And you: do you trust silence to move more than all the noise?
